On January 3, Supreme Promotion and Laing brought a version of the popular ‘Sting’ concert to Antigua and all account was that it was a master blast. The show is obviously not as big as the Jamaican Sting but less controversial and just as nice. Artist like Egg Nog and Flippa Mafia were in performances among others, but Kartel and Spice mashed up the place. With no Mavado to worry about Kartel gave the audience his best performance. Antigua Sting was a success and may be repeated next year.

With over 13 people killed in Jamaica since the beginning of the year, the crime rate has not shown any signs of easing up. When the final count comes in for 2008 we will be looking at about 1600 killings. It is hard to talk about the run away murder rate in the Island but if we continue to put pressure on the politicians and authorities they will ultimately find ways to reduce the murder rate. We can not let up or get weary. As you can see the murderers don’t take holidays. We will have to let our voices heard through any medium possible.

What a great pity that all that is heard overseas about Jamaica is crime. I lived, worked and married in Jamaica in the 70s and now have taken early retirement. I would like to retire to Jamaica. However, if I discuss this with Jamaican friends, I access websites, or even discuss with more casual acquaintances, the reaction is always the same, ‘it could cost you your life’. I guess what makes Jamaica affordable is that no one wants to go and live there, so I should consider that a blessing, but what a poor reputation to have. I might point out that young Jamaicans overseas havent exactly brought much praise upon Jamaicans generally as they have exported the crime wave. Such a pity really.
