If this bill passes then it will encourage police to wrongfully arrest innocent Jamaicans. If the human rights and lawyers that are making this claim step back and listen to what they are saying then they will be surprised at themselves.
This bring to mind the Politicians who make all this promises before they are elected but don’t fulfill the promises once they are elected. In the case of the Politicians because of some of then did wrong what we should do is stay home and not vote for any one. We really don’t do that because what would happen to the country is far greater than having a government who need to iron out some issues. The same thing goes for the bill, what is a country without rules, laws and penalty. (The ones we have aren’t working and no-one have the guts to make any changes)
A 5-year-old child knows right from wrong but if the child does wrong and the parent ignores that child then the child will continue to do wrong, and as the child grows so does the wrong. This is why we cannot continue to ignore what is happening in the country while it gets worse. This is why we need to do something because what we are doing now is not working and only an idiot will continue doing the same thing and expect a different outcome.
If rules are put in place that a person can be jailed for up to 60 days pending investigation then so be it. It there is concerns that police will abuse their power and wrongfully arrest someone due to spite or revenge then that police should be investigated, jailed and fired that can be a part of the bill. The investigation should be by an independent entity not the police to rule bias and corruption. The laws of the land are for everyone rich or poor, Politian or non-politicians, black or white no exclusion.
We have to do something this problem has been festering for too long. We cannot continue to be sitting ducks while the violence continue to raise havoc on our country while the majority looks on and the lawmakers and government looks on. We have to do something now!

In what continues to be a severe down-slide in the US stock market the numbers reach -777 yesterday. This occurred after the republican failed to garner the necessary votes to approve the US$700B bailout or rescue, whatever it is. Everyone is hoping that this matters is settled soon because this could have a tremendous impact on the world economy if it continues to linger. Countries like Jamaica would see a major reduction in tourism and remittances to the Island.

Many Jamaicans can breathe a sigh of relief if recent statements by Jamaica PM Bruce Golding in New York is true. Golding said that the Bank of Jamaica has assured him that Jamaica net international reserves stands at US$2.4 billion and Jamaica will be able to withstand the pending US financial crisis. This is good news since most of us always believe that ‘if the US sneezes Jamaica catches cold.’

Investment banks such as Lehman, Bear Stern, Meryl Lynch, AIG insurance are all on life support waiting for Dr. George Bush to decide which one to pull the plug on and which ones to resuscitate. At the time of writings a few already died from lack of attention. For years economists have been predicting these predicaments with envied accuracies, but either the government not listening or simply don’t know what to do. It is interesting to note that these CEO’s are paid millions of dollars in good times, but now they are seeking bailouts when times are bad. We could go into one thousand reasons why these banks should not be bailed out or why they should, but that is a topic for another day.
It is still too soon to determine what effect these melt downs will have on the tourist industry. Countries like Jamaica gets a lot of visitors from the USA. When people lose their jobs and have no discretionary incomes, unfortunately vacations are the first to be deleted from the list of things to do. Countries that depend a lot on tourism should plan ahead to meet the expected fallouts in the market.
