A few days a go we learned that well known DJ Vybz Kartel was arrested by the Jamaican police in relation to a murder that was committed in St. Catherine. According to Kartel someone told the police that he was somehow implicated in the murder. Kartel vehemently denied any wrongdoing and was released from lock up.
Over the last couple of years many of our artists and DJ’s have been associated with various deviant behaviors. In many cases it is difficult to know whether these rumors had any merits. What is true is that most of our entertainers do not like to be seen as role models. Some go out of the way to prove that they are Thugs, Gangsta’s or Shotta’s. This type of image helps promote their persona. A lot of fans revere their favorite artists when they characterized themselves as Gangsta’s. However, sometimes this can backfire.
As in the case of Kartel the poor fellow, probably, has absolutely nothing to do with the incident, but there are some who would think otherwise. Can you imagine if it is said that Beres Hammond shot up some boy? You see where I am coming from. It is all about perception. Any comment?
Negril is a top destination for millions of people around the World and now were letting a little “NOISE” stop the town form excelling.
Recently Jamaica imposed the Noise Abatement Act, which states in summary that, shows had to be over by midnight on weekdays and 2 a.m on weekends in residential areas, but isn’t this a bit harsh, no matter what anyone wants to say Jamaica is well known for it’s “Dance All Night Till Sunrise” parties.
I believe music is and will always be one of the many reasons Jamaica is such a hot spot. Negril thrives on tourism… tourists come to Jamaica in order to enjoy themselves and party, if they wanted to end things at midnight I’m sure they could have saved their money and just hang out at a local spot in their area/country. What’s the use of coming to Negril or Jamaica for that matter if you can’t get the full hundred?
Jamaicans are trying to hard to be like everyone else in the world and in return leaving bits and pieces of themselves behind. Jamaicans as a whole should take into consideration that this decision could do more harm than good.
In Miami everyone knows that South Beach is a party destination for tourists and locals therefore the city has to bend and change some rules in order to make things work and also to maintain a steady income for the city. I understand that guidelines must be taken to make residents happy but there are two sides to every story. We have to come up with alternatives, this can’t just be a one shoe fits all decision, especially when there’s millions of dollars at stake.
I’m sure these lawmakers are trying to provide a happy median but they really should think this one out before causing financial harm to the country.

The issue with Elephant man and dancer Ice regarding the ‘Gully Creepa’ dance should be able to be resolved amicable. According to the Star August 26,2008 regarding the issue of compensation Elephant man said that the dancers should go get their own because as an artist he gets his own.
I believe this is an unfair situation because if he created the dance and the artist made the song after the dance then he can give him a little something. He should also take him along with him to promote the song and dance. I can imagine how much money Elephant man is making so why not give the man his dues. I am not saying that you are contracted to pay him but I know that deep down you know it is the right thing to do. I have seen you perform many times at Universal studio, Miami and New York. It is a joy to see you perform and you seem to be a good person. You know that if you give him something that wont make a big difference in your life (monetary) but it may make a difference in his. Please rethink your decision and do the right thing.
