Air Jamaica Deal Still On?

The new government of Trinidad and Tobago is said to be reviewing the new Air Jamaica buy out deal. Trinidad owned Caribbean Airlines had just entered into an agreement to purchase Air Jamaica. Many Jamaicans are not happy with the deal and believe the government should have sold the airline to a Jamaican entity. Jamaica minister of Finance Audley Shaw claimed that the deal is solid and can withstand the scrutiny.

Dunn’s River Falls is a famous waterfall near Ocho Rios, Jamaica and a major Caribbean tourist attraction that attracts thousands of visitors each year.^[1]^[2].

About 1,000 feet (300 m) high,^[3] the waterfalls are terraced like giant stair steps. Several small lagoons are interspersed among the vertical sections of the falls.

Climbing up the waterfalls is a popular tourist activity^[4] and is often, but not exclusively, performed with the help of tour guides from the park. The falls are bordered by lush, green vegetation that shades the area from the sun. This helps keep the area cool as people try to climb the waterfall. MORE BAD NEWS ON AIR JAMAICA. With just 2 days to go before the handing over of Air Jamaica to Caribbean Airlines the Air Jamaica employees are on strike. Reports are that over 1600 workers are to be made redundant on sale day Friday April 30. National Workers Union VP Granville Valentine announces that all categories of workers will be on strike, from ramp attendants to pilots. The government is supposed to give details on the sale of Air J today.

Bye, bye love Bird

The Jamaica Cabinet has given approval for the divestment of Air Jamaica to Caribbean Airlines effective Friday (April 30). Air Jamaica profitable routes will be sold out to Trinidad owned Caribbean Airlines. Many Jamaicans are still unhappy with the sale and still believe that the government has not done enough to try to keep the airline. We are hoping that Air Jamaica will still fly with all the amenities offered by the previous ‘Love Bird.’

Words out that Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Mavado, Ricky Trooper, Adonia US visas have been cancelled. We still do not know the reasons for the cancellations but there is unrest between the US government and the Jamaican government regarding the Christopher ‘Dudus’ coke issue.

Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett is a Hypocrite

According to an article in the Jamaica Observer, Tourism Minister, Ed Bartlett, told the media in Berlin Germany that he is feeling the ‘pain’ of the Air Jamaica Demise and its pending sale to Caribbean Airlines. He also went on to say that the routes that Caribbean Airlines will be taking over are the profitable routes because Air Jamaica has already closed down the unprofitable routes.

If that is the case why didn’t Mr. Bartlett administration did not give Air Jamaica another chance to see if running the profitable routes would take the airline out of the red? Why didn’t Mr. Bartlett give the Airline Pilot Association a chance to purchase the airline if he so believes in its future profitability?

The truth of the matter is that Mr. Bartlett and his administration is trying to amass enough cash from the sale of Air Jamaica, possible sale of Vernamfield, possible sale of Kingston Wharves, and from the IMF deal to finance the next election. With all the corruption ad non-performance of his administration they stand no chance in hell of winning, fairly, the next election in Jamaica. Stop crying crocodiles tears Mr. Bartlett.

Air Jamaica Pilots Trying To Save Air J; Will They Suceed?

According to recent news release The Air Jamaica Pilot Association is desperately trying to meet today’s deadline in coming up with the money to show the government that they are serious about purchasing the airline. This maybe the only chance that jamaicans have of claiming air Jamaica as their own again.

Since Air Jamaica went on the bidding block several months ago several companies and countries have been rumored to show interest in the airline but there is no sale so far. Recently it seems likely that Trinidad owned Caribbean Airlines was certain to be the owner, but no word on that yet. We certainly wish the pilots good luck in their bid.
