Jamaica Commish Speaks His Mind on Crime
Finally, the Jamaica Commsiioner of Police has come out openly and speaks his mind about the crime situation in Jamaica. Have you ever wondered with all the hiring of the best brains and the importation of some of the finest lawmen from other countries why Jamaica crime situation continues to get worse? The reason as the commissioner puts it is because of the involvement of politics in the criminal enterprise.
It is interesting to note that the present government blasted the former government on its failure to control crime in the island. Now that they are in they treat crime as if it is a natural way of life so live with it. We hardly hear the PM comes out and address the abnormally high murder rate. He only responds to it if he is bothered by a nuisance reporter. It couldn’t be that so many bright politicians don’t have a clue what is going on. The real truth is that they all benefit from it. Both the PNP and the JLP utilize the existence of gang control garrisons to ensure their electability. Every Don is associated with one of the major political party.
Of the more than one hundred Jamaicans murdered each month most of them are from the under-privilege class. In the few instances where a few prominent persons are murdered the killers are usually caught within days or weeks. Among the poor and the wretched more than 50% of the killers got away scotch free. Government goes about its business as if the Jamaica murder rate is acceptable in civilized society. There is no outrage, no major crime strategy except the old tried and failed.
I guess we will have to live with the fact that existing in our paradise will remain a game of Russian Roulette. Come to Jamaica and have fun but if you get killed don’t complain, many others suffer the same fate.

This crime situation is very faustrating to most Jamaican who want the best for the country .We are fed up with the constant reminder of abuse, and manipulation that the poor and under priviledge have to endure by the so call leaders of the political parties.
It is about time that these young men who are killing each other realised that they are being used by these political leaders who should be looking out for their intrest. If the government is intrested in stopping these killings they can.
