When Marijuana is legalized in California, it will be a shame that Jamaica, which grows the best Marijuana, will be left holding the bag. It is not if Marijuana will be legalized in the USA, it is a matter of which state first and when.

According to an Associated Press writer, Marcus Wohlsen ( AP Wed Jul 15) ‘A bill to tax and regulate marijuana in California like alcohol would generate nearly $1.4 billion in revenue for the cash-strapped state. The bill introduced by San Francisco Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano in February would allow adults 21 and older to legally possess, grow and sell marijuana.’

“It defies reason to propose closing parks and eliminating vital services for the poor while this potential revenue is available,” Ammiano said in a statement.

It is said that about 500 tons of Marijuana is consumed in California each year. California is the top producing Marijuana state in the USA.

Jamaica is known for producing one of the best qualities Marijuana worldwide. Our government should initiate the debate on legalizing Marijuana. They could start out on a controlled experimental basis then go all out. This would decriminalized the plant and render the drug lords addiction to its profit useless. It would also motivate our young people to return to farming, as marijuana cultivation would be a lot more profitable than cassava.

We could compete directly with the USA and, except for reggae music, this will be the only quality product we could certainly beat them on. Our government should not be intimidated and outwitted by the US in the quest to cultivate and sell marijuana. I guarantee that we will see the legalization of marijuana soon in the US state by state. Remember when we said that no state officials in their right minds would legalize Gay marriage?
