Lottery Scam Still A Problem For Jamaica
The Jamaican police as usual allow the Lottery Scam to get out of hand, just like how they allow the gun for drugs trade between Jamaica and Haiti to flourish. What I can’t understand with all the money that the Jamaican Government pays out to experts for intelligence work, how comes information is flowing on the street for years before police intelligence got hold of it? For the lottery scam to have flourished the way it is going and the millions of dollars involved it must have been going on for a very long time.
Now that the international news media got hold of it, Jamaica is now seen in a very bad light. This could affect the country financially down the road. According to a report in the Jamaican Gleaner, the telemarketing industry ion the Montego Bay area could be badly damaged from the scam. The scammers rely on telemarketing and telemarketing contacts to carry out their deeds.
For those who do not know what the lottery scam is, it is a means by which someone residing abroad, mainly USA, would get a call saying that they won the lottery. In order to collect the p[rize the winner would have to send a certain amount of money to Jamaica to pay for administrative expense to process the winnings. Once that money is sent, usually in the thousands, the scammer would disappear leaving the so called lottery winner to ‘hold the bag.’ It sounds very simple but millions of US dollars have been scammed using this method.
Many people part wiht their money out of Greed, fear and ignorance. Whatever your situation is, if someone calls you and tell you that you win money just hang up the phone on them. If you feel like talking just tell them that since they have full control over the money that you win, they should just take the processing fees and send you the change. You could even offer them more than what the actual fees are. These people are professionals so my best advise to you is to avoid talking to them altogether.
