Need For Better Policing
Jamaica has been struggling with the crime situation for years but has not gotten a grip on the situation as of yet. They have tried many ways to get a handle on the situation but with little success. They have developed the King fish and they have also sought help from abroad by hiring Mark Shield. With the new developed entity and the hired experts from abroad the crime situation sees to have gotten out of hand.I became interested in the Intelligence-Led Policing which is basically a means and way of using intelligence to prevent crime before it happens by applying and targeting areas or areas based on the intelligence data on hand. This module was developed by the British and was later started use in America after 9/11.
This module if properly implemented in Jamaica will be very helpful in controlling the difficult situation that many of us have struggled so long to overcome. But, in order for this model to be properly implemented there are certain factors that have to be dealt with.
1. Building a strong foundation in order to start the module, include but not limited to good, honest supervisors and the necessary equipments.
2. Police buying in to the concept and the contribution that they themselves need to make in order for the program to work.
3. Better police community relationship which will build better understanding, trust and communication.
4. Policing without the interferences of politicians or their interest.
It is of great importance for the police to have some control and to prevent this crime disruption that continue to exist in spite of the millions of dollars that is already spent and we have nothing to show that we have accomplish.
