The stage is set tonight for the ‘Big Debate’ between the ruling JLP Finance Minister Audley Shaw and opposition spokesman on Finance Dr. Peter Phillips. Much fireworks anticipated, especially regarding IMF deals, JDIP, Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, JEEP and much more. Even more so than the upcoming debate between JLP leader Andrew Holness and PNP leader Portia Simpson, this finance debate will give Jamaicans a good understanding of where the country is leading to after the election. It is not clear whether debates have any effect on voters but this debate will reinforce whatever thoughts voters already have about the two parties.
This is an account of a 67 year old woman who was robbed $3000 during a flight from London to Jamaica. It seemed like she was drugged by some scam artists and her money taken from her bags. When are criminals going to stop prey on the older generation. See the Jamaica Gleaner for more on this story
Both the Gleaner Bill Johnson poll and the Observer Don Anderson’s poll show the JLP with a slight lead over the opposition PNP leading up to the December 29 election. Both Polls, however, indicate that with the margin of errors there could be a statistically dead heat. The young Andrew Holness of the JLP seems to be enjoying the momentum from a more motivated voters block than the veteran PNP politician Portia Simpson. We all know that politics have lots of surprises so supporters of both sides need to keep the champagne corks on until the night of December 29.
Thanks to the Jamaica Gleaner for bringing us what we consider to be the ‘Picture of the Year.’ The picture below is a football scene where supporters of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party(JLP) is playing a game of football with supporters of the opposition People’s National Party (PNP) in the community of Maverley St. Andrew. Anyone who knows about the history of Maverley and political violence will also know that this a huge deal. Jamaicans have come far way in realizing that most politicians only use them and when they get to office they look out for themselves, friends and families only. Beautiful picture!
December 29 is when Prime Minister Andrew Holness said that Jamaicans will go to the polls to re-elect him as Prime Minister. In the meantime his rival opposition leader Portia Simpson is hell bent on making Mr. Holness the shortest ruling PM in Jamaica History. So December many Jamaicans maybe singing ‘Jingle Bell’ for real an doters maybe listening to the horns of the Jeep. The latest polls show that both the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People’s National Party (PNP) are statistically dead heat with JLP doing better on the momentum. The JLP are behaving like they already won the election but many Jamaicans are skeptical in light of the recent JDIP scandal. So I guess we will have our Christmas cake and either sing Jingle Bell or Blow the Horn. Happy Andrewmus or Portiamus!
One would think that with all the publicity surrounding the Lottery Scam that victims would be hard to come, by but apparently not so. Several senior citizens in the USA and other countries are still being bilked out of millions by so called Lotto Scammers. The scammers would called from countries like Jamaica and tell mostly senior citizens that they win the lotto but they need to pay money upfront to collect the proceeds. Although this seems foolish to many of us several hundreds senior citizens fall for it and lose millions of dollars. It is said that some victims have lost in excess of US$500,000. We can’t emphasize this anymore. If you did not buy lotto how could you win it?
Newly appointed Prime Minister Andrew Holness is set to announced the General Election date on Sunday December 4 in a mass meeting in Mandeville, Manchester. The election date has caused many Jamaicans to turn prophet and mind readers overnight as the guessing goes on. The PM was supposed to ‘Call It’ two Sundays aback at the JLP annual conference but postponed the calling. It was announced that he was supposed to ‘Call it’ this Wednesday at a mass meeting in Mandeville but that turned out to be naught also. With so much scandal facing the new administration I don’t’ think he is going to miss this Sunday thou.

Singer/Actress Miley Cyrus is creating controversy regarding a comment she made at a birthday party after her friends offered up a Bob Marley cake as present. Listen to what Cyrus says in the video below:
All bets are on that PM Andrew Holness will call the General Election this Wednesday evening November 30 at a mass meeting in Mandeville Manchester. The much anticipated December election is coming to reality. The election is constitutionally due late next year but the New PM is trying to capitalize on his ‘Newness” and does not want to repeat a ‘Portia.’ Former PM Portia Simpson lost the 2007 General Election after she waited over one year to call it. During this time her popularity decreased from high 80% to less than 50% with all the problems that Jamaica was facing. Bruce Golding then went on to win the election by approximately 3000 overall votes. The rest is history. Many Jamaicans have now become election predictors with some have the date as early as December 21st and others as late as December 30. We should know on Wednesday.
