The sale of Jamaica popular world class beer ‘Red Stripe’ has plummeted in Jamaica this year. Recent quarterly profit report shows a slide from $J450 million to $J74 million. There are many speculations as to the reason for the decline, including competitions from other manufacturers of alcohol like energy drinks etc.,

However, many believe that Red Stripe parent company Desnoes & Geddes decision to pull sponsorship from top reggae concerts played a big role in the decline of sales. The company last year decided not to support reggae artists who used offensive languages against Gays and other groups. Sale of Red Stripe on the international market is said to be still  holding its own.
