The recent announcement by the government of Jamaica to drastically reduced the number of cities that air Jamaica flies is sad and dismal for many of us, but probably necessary. At least for now it is better than eradicating the airline altogether. I heard that Air Jamaica

has lost over one billion US dollars so far and it is still bleeding millions of dollars. Air Jamaica is now flying on one wing, so to speak.

It always baffles me why Air Jamaica end up in this predicament. I remember paying up to $480.00 for a round trip on Air Jamaica from Miami to Kingston. This is only a 90-minute one-way trip and in those days fuel was not as expensive as it is now. I wonder where all of this money went since the airline was always overbooked. There had to be some mismanagement along the line or exorbitant life style of its executives, but I guess no one will ever know. Whatever happened, the airline is now in a mess and we are just holding our breath that it is not abolished outrightly.

We believe that the government is moving in the right direction in scaling down the operations of the airline while maintaining our pride in the sky. We also hope that they implement these procedures in a bipartisan manner and in the best interest of the country. We still hope to see the lovebird flying in the skies, even on one wing.
