Usain Bolt3It is with uttermost admiration to learn that World Class athlete Usain Bolt will be offering himself to the Jamaica Tourist Board to use in its advertisement. We should bear in mind that Bolt’s image is worth millions of dollars and he is poised to be among the super rich athletes of the near future. So this gesture is not just a mere show of patriotism.

 When our politicians go on the platforms they usually skillfully identify with the plight of the poor. They usually command a full grasp of all the problems the country face such as joblessness, crime, poverty lack of production etc. However, once they are elected some of them totally forget what their election is all about. We will hear about the lavish spending on their homes, the purchases of luxury cars, and shameless effort to increase their salaries. Some constituencies hardly see their leaders again after election.

 We are asking all politicians and appointed leaders to take a leaf out of Usain Bolt’s book. Use your status to benefit the country not to enrich yourselves to the detriment of the country. Much is given to you and much is expected back from you. Sacrifice is doing the great things that you by no means compelled to do. In your case you are even paid to do things that most of you are not doing.

 No one can pay Usain Bolt for the advertisement he is doing for Jamaica. He is one of the most popular people in the world right now. Usain Bolt has just been nominated as a runner up for the Time’s Magazine person of the year. As a matter of fact we should all take a page form his book.
